Behind The Scenes : The Broken Promise

NFCPS (National Fellowship Of Christian Pharmacy Students) in conjunction with CMDA (Christian Medical And Dental Association), hosted the 2016/2017 HIS AND HERS relationship forum, a platform for Godly relationship talk and counseling, with this tenure spicing the event up with a DRAMA and MUSICAL CONCERT.

The event was graced with singers and guests of honor. The crown jewel of the program, was the staged playlet “THE BROKEN PROMISE”, a story about ADUKE and BODE, and the ups and downs of their marital life. Sequel to the event, the cast of the drama, gave us this exclusive behind the scenes scoop.

Drama is birthed with creativity, as the actors express themselves, bringing the characters in the script to life. Doing this, they can send a message. Acting takes a lot of work, especially in the form of body expression and staying in character, as well as memorizing lines.

The lines come together to form a story. The broken promise staged as a live play, reflected the real life problems of a relationship gone sour, like most of what we have in society today.

The broken promise was directed by AWODUNMILA OYINDAMOLA and YEMI ADEBIYI, both prolific Christian actors, who are medical students in OOUTH.

Having directed the staged drama, YEMI had this to say

putting concepts together is not an easy task. Personally, I want to give thumbs up to the guys who featured in this drama. A little casting was done, to make sure the student actors fit their respective roles. Generally speaking, working with everybody was fulfilling”.

LAWAL SAMUEL ADEFISOYE, a second year student pharmacist, who played BODE'S YOUNGER SELF said

"if Bode was God fearing, he wouldn't have done all he did, to the point of killing aduke. Playing Bode made me feel the pain of women in abusive homes. The play sends a message of self control and caution in a Godly relationship"

JULIUS OLUWAFISAYO, a physiology student who played ADUKE’S YOUNGER SELF had this to say

personally, I think drama is a depiction of life, such that we learn lessons from it.  Aduke tries to find love but ends up brokenhearted. In life, we really ought to know our partners. Forget about appearances, they are superficial”.

OYENUGA OLUWATOBILOBA said

acting is something I love doing. I used to shy away from stage work, but OOUTH opened me up. The broken promise is a short film that cuts across every sphere of life. We shouldn’t do more than our capabilities, but then a promise is a promise, mistakes and all”.

OGUNSOLA DIMEJI a doctor in the play, said

drama in OOUTH is more of goal oriented than impactful, but that’s changing. Being goal oriented is not necessarily bad, but the central focus should be making positive impacts. How does what we project on stage, change our audience for better? The broken promise sends the message of caution. Don’t let the fire burn till it consumes everything”.

ADEBAMBO ADEPEJU the pastor's wife had this to say

Aduke has matrimonial issues that start out small but eventually grow beyond control. In my scene, the pastor and his wife try to settle things. Relationships ought not to be this way”.

AZEEZ OLUWATOBILOBA said

people know me to be a funny personality, and when the chance came to feature in this stage drama, I took it. Acting is a way of self-expression, and I really want to get better at it. The drama is a reflection of what goes on in society. It’s easy to start relationships at a young age, but sustaining them is another thing. Aduke was repeatedly abused by my character- her uncle”.

UDUJI FRANKLIN said

"I didn’t set out to act in OOUTH initially, when I resumed there as a pharmacy student. Along the line, I found it and it found me. The broken promise is just what can happen if things go wrong in any relationship. We shouldn’t  let things get so bad before fixing it”.

FASANYA ADESOJI, played BODE, and in a few words, he said

Bode was heartless, but it wasn’t entirely his fault. He was egoistic, lacked self-control, but loved his wife genuinely. I’d like to say kudos to the writer of the story, in person of Abisola Damilola”.

OSUNGBOHUN TOLUWALOPE who played the psychologist, said “there was love between both aduke and bode, but they let  circumstance grow as weeds in their marriage. A psychologist may help a bit, but ultimately people need to solve their problems”.

OGUNNOWO OYINDAMOLA who played Aduke at the psychologist’s office, said

I started acting as a hobby in my teenage years, and I love self-expression. Aduke and Bode both let their pasts affect their future together, and Bode was very insecure. Anger issues and self-control problems kill relationships”.

The writer of the story, ABISOLA DAMILOLA had this to say

“I’m thankful because the play turned out well. Thank God I was around to see it, as I was a little indisposed. The broken promise came to me by a divine inspiration, and I decided to work on the story. The sketch work of the story itself, took me about eleven hours of writing overnight. I have great crew members, and we revised the script. The directors made it work out, especially in stage management. The individual actors gave their very best. I’m just grateful, that we sent our message. It’s not about you, but it’s about your partner”.

For those of us that watched the broken promise, I cant help but wonder.

Would  things would have gotten better had Aduke survived?

Was the psychologist necessary? Whose fault was it?

We’d love to read your opinion about it in comments.
